About Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce

About the Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce
The Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce is the "voice of business" for our entire region. As a membership-driven organization, we are committed to continually improving the business climate in our community. Registered under the Federal Board of Trade Act, we operate as a not-for-profit entity comprised of businesses, professionals, non-for-profits, and other community groups.

Our Structure and Funding
Guided by an elected Board of Directors and dedicated staff, we work tirelessly to advocate for a thriving community. While membership dues are our primary source of funding, we also maintain two contracts with City of Port Alberni for operating both the Port Alberni Visitor Information Centre and McLean Mill National Historic Site. We also receive occasional grants from the Alberni Clayoquot Regional District and other governmental bodies.

Our Connections and Influence
We are proud members of the BC Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. This affiliation means our members automatically gain access to the extensive networks and benefits of these larger organizations. The BC Chamber represents over 36,000 businesses through more than 120 local Chambers, while the Canadian Chamber encompasses over 200,000 businesses via 450 Chambers across the country. These connections amplify our advocacy efforts, ensuring that the voice of our business community is heard at all levels of government.

What is GroLocal?

GroLocal is a program your Chamber offers to help member businesses understand and improve their digital presence, covering everything from website security and accessibility to how visible they are in search engines and the AI tools more customers now use to find local businesses. Instead of a business having to research and hire separate experts for each of these areas on its own, the program gives them one clear, prioritized report and a defined path to improve. It runs under your Chamber's own name and branding, and is powered by SiteShield's assessment engine, so members get the same real, technical analysis used across the program as a benefit of their Chamber membership.

What does a Digital Intelligence Report measure?

Each report evaluates a business across eight areas: Security (whether the site and its data are properly protected), Accessibility (whether people with disabilities can actually use the site), Website Health & Performance (speed and reliability), SEO (how well the site is set up to be found in traditional search), AEO: Answer Engine Optimization (how well it answers the direct questions people ask), GEO: Generative Engine Optimization (how it is positioned for AI-generated answers and summaries), AI Visibility (whether the business actually gets recommended when people ask AI tools), and ESG (environmental, social, and governance signals). All of it is distilled into a single executive score, along with a prioritized roadmap showing exactly what to fix first for the biggest impact, rather than a long technical list to sort through alone.

What standards and data does the report use?

Rather than a proprietary or made-up scoring system, the report is grounded in recognized, independent standards: OWASP (the industry standard for web application security) for the Security score, and WCAG/AODA (the standards accessibility experts and regulators use) for Accessibility. It also pulls real, live data directly from tools professionals already trust: Google Search Console and Google Analytics (GA4) for how the site is actually performing with real visitors, Google's own PageSpeed Insights for technical health, and DataForSEO for search visibility and competitive positioning. The result is a report built on verifiable data, not guesswork.

How does the report evaluate AI visibility?

More customers are skipping traditional search entirely and asking AI tools directly for recommendations, typing a question into Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Gemini instead of searching Google. The assessment tests how a business actually shows up when asked these kinds of real questions across each of those major AI engines, rather than assuming that ranking well in traditional search also means being recommended by AI. The two don't necessarily go together. This gives a business a clear picture of a fast-growing channel that traditional SEO reporting doesn't cover, along with specific guidance on what to improve.
